Staging Tips for Outdoor Space

May 7, 2012

Outdoor space can be difficult to tackle when staging.  The key is to keep everything natural, flowing, and not to use over-sized decor or plants.  This is the chance to show off the potential of your outdoor space in hopes the buyer will love it just as much as you do!

Outdoor Space Musts for Staging:

  • Clean and fix the deck (if you have one).  If your deck is old and a good wash won’t fix it, you may want to consider getting a new deck.  An easy way to freshen up a deck is by sanding it down first and then apply a light-colored stain to give a rustic, grainy look.  Now you can add patio furniture so a potential buyer can get an idea of how much space your deck provides.
  • Revitalize a worn patio.  If you have a red brick patio an easy fix to bring it back to life: roll a light coat of paint onto the bricks, lightly spray water on them and then dab them before they dry.  This will give an outdoor look.
  • Clean up the yard.  Whether there are children’s toys scattered outside or your dogs tennis ball, clean it up! No one wants to be walking around and step on Fluffy’s chew toy!
  • Remove the bushes.  At one point in time your landscaping was great and in tip-top shape and it’s time to bring that back.  Remove any large bushes that have grown to much into the side of your house or onto the sidewalk/driveway, trim the trees, and remove the weeds.  Remember the saying ‘less is more’, that applies to landscaping too!
