Know Your Credit Score

September 1, 2011

One of the most important things we can do to ensure that we are in a good position to take care of our family, especially during difficult financial times, is to monitor our credit scores and ensure they are as high as we can make them.  The higher the credit score, the easier it is to get a loan, whether for a car or a mortgage, and to get the lowest rates.  This can mean thousands of dollars in your pocket!

To improve your credit score, here are 5 simple things you can do:

  1. Get copies annual of your credit score and make sure the information is correct.
  2. Pay your bills on time.
  3. Understand how your credit score is calculated.
  4. Learn the legal steps you can take to improve your credit score.
  5. Beware of credit repair scams.  Sometimes doing it yourself is the best way.

If you have any questions, ask your local Realtor or mortgage consultant.
