Tax Appeal – Is it Time?

June 4, 2011

In Chester County, PA, property assessments can be appealed between May 1 and August 1.  There is a fairly simple process to follow and the result can be a reduction in your taxes by hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars a year.

How do you know if you can benefit?  There is a formula that is established by the state for each township annually, to determine if your taxes are in line with the market value of your home.  Older homes will frequently be assessed quite low, if their township has not gone through a reassessment in recent years.  New homes, on the other hand, are most often assessed much higher than they should be.  In the latter situation, a tax appeal can be to your benefit.

If you would like help determining if a tax appeal is right for you, please give me a call.  As a full service Realtor, this is one area where I can help guide you.
